Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Thursday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari has said he has no problems with being called Baba Go Slow by some Nigerians, saying that his government might be slow, but steady. He was speaking at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington while answering questions during an interactive session with Nigerians in the Diaspora.


2. Report says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reportedly invited the daughter of former President Umaru Yar’ Adua and wife of former Kebbi State Governor, Saidu Dakingari, Zaina Dakingari for interrogation over alleged N2bn fraud. Also invited was wife of the Senate President, Mrs Saraki.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has made his position known on the controversial gay marriage. He had told his US counterpart, Obama that sodomy was against the law of Nigeria and strange to the nation’s culture, hence it will not work in Nigeria.

4. Multiple explosions Wednesday ripped through the city of Gombe, killing many people, while several others sustained injuries. Report says two explosive devises were detonated by suicide bombers at about 7 p.m. inside Dadin Kowa motor ​park​ while the third blast occurred nearly two hours after the first two attacks. Some reports have claimed that 40 were killed in the attack.

5. Youth corps member who graduated with a First Class from the University or Distinction from the Polytechnic will now serve in tertiary schools. This was disclosed by the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig.-Gen.Johnson Olawumi, on Wednesday in Kaduna.

6. Parents and perspective undergraduates, Wednesday stormed the gate of the University of Lagos, protesting the cut off point of 250 set by the university despite jamb’s approved mark of 180. The parents alleged that the aim was to simply deprive their children of admission into the university.

7. Members of the Non-Accademic Staff Union of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have suspended their three weeks old strike. The workers suspended their strike following a meeting on Wednesday with the school management and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

8. The Nigerian Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, has said that the Force was changing its strategy in its fight against Boko Haram and other threats to security of lives and property in the North-East and Niger Delta regions. He said this in Port Harcourt yesterday.

9. Immediate past National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), has denied ever maltreating or being party of those who maltreated President Muhammadu Buhari when he, was removed as military Head of State in 1985 via coup. He said the allegation was false as he had so much respect for Buhari both then and now.

10. Report says some loyalists of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila in the House of Representatives yesterday disassociated themselves from the memo the Gbajabiamila group sent to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on the sharing of principal offices. They have advocated for an end to the leadership tussle in the National Assembly.
