AG to Audit Obama Trip

allafrica news

Expenses incurred by the government to host US President Barack Obama for three days will be audited, Auditor General Edward Ouko has said.
"It (hosting Obama) is government expenditure and if it was substantial, we will surely look at it," he said in Mombasa yesterday.

Ouko was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association conference at Whitesands Hotel.
Ouko said they are working according to a plan and time will come when Obama's visit will be scrutinised by the financial auditors.

The national government and the Nairobi county government are believed to have spent millions of taxpayers money for the visit.
One which caught Kenyans attention was the grass which was planted few days before Obama's arrival.

Obama trip to Kenya and Ethiopia provided him with a total flight time of 29 hours at the cost of $5.9 tax dollars (Sh590million), according to the US National Taxpayers Union Foundation report.
