What a powerful and heartbreaking image. 35 women accusing Bill Cosby of sexual assault have gone public with their identities. This tragic sisterhood united by appearing on the cover of the July 27 issue of ‘New York Magazine.’
Wow. For a while, the majority of the women accusing Bill Cosby, 78, of rape and sexual assault have stayed relatively anonymous. No longer! 35 of Bill’s accusers have come forth to put a face to his alleged crime by posing for the cover of New York Magazine. The 35 women appear on the July 27 issue and the magazine also contains a variety of solo and group portraits taken by Amanda Demme. They each tell their story of how Bill allegedly sexually assaulted them, adding a stark, human side to these reported horrific crimes.
The women, whose range 20 to 80 years old, come from all different backgrounds, reports UsWeekly. Some were Playboy bunnies, some were TV writers, but they all allegedly have one tragic thing in common. An essay by Noreen Malone accompanies their accounts, and she writes that “among younger women, and particularly online, there is a strong sense now that speaking up is the only thing to do, that a woman claiming her own victimhood is more powerful than any other weapon in the fight against rape.”
The New York Magazine story comes after news that Bill confessed he obtained drugs for the purpose of having sex with women. Bill’s 2005 deposition, related to a lawsuit that he sexually assaulted a Temple University employee, was released to the public on July 6. In the court documents, Bill admitted that he got Quaaludes in order to drug women before sex.
Wow. At the moment, a total of 46 women have accused Bill of rape and sexual assault, reports Slate. He has yet to be formally charged with a crime, but after his deposition and the New York Magazine story, it’s hard to think that Bill is completely innocent on this.
Barack Obama Slams Bill Cosby: Drugging Women For Sex Is Rape
Even President Barack Obama has condemned Bill Cosby. While speaking at a July 11 press conference, Obama took a moment to speak on Bill’s many accusations. “As you know, I tend to make it a policy not to comment on the specifics of cases where there might still be, if not criminal, then civil, issues involved,” Obama said. “I’ll say this: If you give a woman, or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug, and then have sex with that person without consent — that’s rape.”Will you get a copy of the New York Magazine, HollywoodLifers? What do you think about the cover?
