Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada

Atabor Julius in Lokoja
Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada has stated that the victory of Engineer Sam Ohuetu  as the new state chairman of the PDP was a  bold effort to reposition the party for the current challenges.

Wada noted that with the successful conduct of the three- man adhoc delegate ward  congress and the state party congress , the party had been energised  to ward off any challenger in the November 21 ,2015 governornorship election.

"The  party executives  are eager to show what they can contribute to the party. We are very happy that the Ward congress went peacefully and rancor-free as no single person wrote a petition against the congress. There was a level playing field for everybody", he said.
The governor stated  this yesterday  in Lokoja  during the swearing-in- of the new PDP state  Executive members.
According to him, the outcome of the election was an eloquent testimony that the PDP was founded on truth and honesty, making it the party to beat in the forthcoming governorship election.
"We have to reinvigorate and strengthen the party to meet the current challenges. You can't enter a  governorship  election without putting in place the executive council members. With the successful election of the executive officers of the party we are determined to retain the state.
"The new leadership is hungry to make a mark and to put their footprints on the sand of history, and there is a renew spirit among the members who have put behind them the  incidence of presidential and National Assembly elections" Wada assured.
On why he had  not declared his intention for re-election, he replied,  "We are a law abiding party . The INEC which is the election umpire has not blown the lid. We don't want to run foul of the law. Any moment the INEC releases the campaign time table we shall make our stand known"
Also speaking during the state congress  , the PDP National Publicity Secretary  Olisah Metuh said  the PDP was in  support of  the move by president Muhammed Buhari to fight corruption in the country, saying that as long as their hands were  clean, they had nothing to fear in the ongoing war against corruption to sanitise the system.
"Even if the PDP are being probed, we support the probe because people are being held to account for their stewardship in office but we don't want political lynching. It is time for everyone to be accountable and transparent. We would not quarrel even if it is only PDP members that are being targeted, all that we are saying is that due process must be followed and obey the law, that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty," he said.
He said the party was in support of probe of public officers whether they are PDP or not and that the party would not protect any of its member who soiled his hands, saying that the time has come for people to be held accountable for their stewardship, maintaining that "If we succeed in recovering some money it is not the success of the president alone, but to the economy of Nigeria.
"When you are down you cannot go lower but look at your mistakes and correct them to build a stronger party. We are now learning the rope from the ground that we are now so that the people would support us to climb to the top again" he said.
Messers Sam Ohuetu, Sam Abenemi, Yahaya Farouk and  Bello were on Thursday elected as chairman, Deputy chairman , Secretary ,treasurer respectively and other members to run the affairs of the state for the next four years
