The Nigerian athletes were given a run for their
money at the Warri Relays-CAA Grand Prix on Saturday by Team Ghana, who
dethroned the hosts in the men’s 4x400m.
Nigeria presented two teams in the event but only
the Team A, anchored by Orukpe Erayokan made it to the podium.
Nigeria were clearly in the lead until the last
10 meters when Ghana’s Emmanuel Dasor dipped in to win right on the finish line
in 3 minutes 4.76 seconds.
Nigeria won the silver in 3:04.77 seconds ahead
of Botswana, who finished in 3:06.49 seconds. Nigeria’s Team B were fifth in
3:08.89 seconds.
Team Ghana came close to having a similar result
in the women’s 4x100m when they finished second in 44.62 seconds, but Nigeria
won in 43.99 seconds, while South Africa were third in 44.89 seconds.
In the women’s 4x400m, Nigeria breasted the tape
in 3:30.88 seconds, Botswana were second in 3:36.97 seconds, while Nigeria’s
Team B were third in 3:46.43 seconds.
Ogho-Oghene Egwero won the men’s 100m final A in
10.23 seconds ahead of Jonathan Minaju, who finished in 10.34 seconds. Obinna
Metu was third in 10.37 seconds.
Divine Oduduru won the men’s 100m Final B in
10.38 seconds, Odele Peter was second in 10.43 seconds, while Onyeka Chukwu was
third in 10.56 seconds.
