Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have exchanged a series of barbed messages via Twitter following the recent nominations for the MTV VMAs.
The nominations for MTV’s Video Music Awards 2015 were unveiled on Tuesday (July 21), with Swift racking up the highest number of nominations. The singer is nominated for nine awards at this year's ceremony.
However, following the news, rapper/singer Minaj seemingly took offence at the omission of her clips for 'Anaconda' and 'Feeling Myself' from the Video Of The Year shortlist. Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are all nominated alongside Swift in the Video Of The Year category.

Taking to Twitter, Minaj initially wrote: "Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or...?", continuing: "If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well".

The star continued to write: "When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination", a tweet that Taylor Swift deemed to be about her. Swift replied: "I've done nothing but love & support you.

It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.." Getty Minaj responded to deny claims that the tweets were a swipe at Swift, adding: "Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this".

With Swift inviting Minaj to come onstage with her if she wins the award, Minaj later retweeted a fan's post that called for Swift to "stop using "support all girls" as an excuse to not be critical of racist media that benefits and glorifies you".

Minaj also criticised the media's allegedly contrasting coverage of Swift's Spotify boycott and her support of Tidal, writing: "I'm so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged." Swift has not yet responded to the later tweets.
