Sara Mutschlechner: Road rage shooting leaves student dead in Denton, Texas

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/sara-mutschlechner-20-was-shot-during-a-road-rage-incident-in-denton-texas/news-story/8a8a6fb47d66a0d225b0e55b413c6b6f SARA Mutschlechner was doing the right thing on New Year’s Eve.
The 20-year-old student from the University of North Texas had volunteered to be the designated driver for her friends, so they could enjoy the festivities in Denton, Texas.
When they were ready to leave, the girls — who were all sorority sisters from Zeta Tau Alpha — piled into her car and began heading home.
It was then Ms Mutschlechner was the victim of sudden, unprovoked violence. A black SUV pulled up beside them just after 2am. Inside were five or six men. What happened next isn’t clear, but police say words were exchanged between the men and the occupants of Ms Mutschlechner’s car, reported New York’s Daily News.
Then someone in the SUV opened fire, firing three rounds. Ms Mutschlechner was hit by a bullet before crashing her car into another vehicle and then a power pole.
When paramedics arrived they reportedly found her lying on the ground with a bullet wound to the head. Two of her passengers received minor injuries.
She spent much of New Year’s Day on life support, before her family made the heartbreaking decision to switch it off.
Police are working on a theory that some of the people in the SUV may have attended the same New Year’s Eve party as the girls, which was attended by about 60 people.
However, witnesses told police at least two of the occupants were at a different New Year’s Eve party in Denton.
“We’re sure that a lot of people at the party would’ve recognised who was in that vehicle and maybe be able to tell us who they were,” Denton police officer Shane Kizer told ABC News. “We’ve got a lot of people that we’re wanting to talk with at this time.”
No arrests have been made.
Her devastated parents joined friends at a vigil on Saturday.
“There’s so many people that knew her that she touched their lives. She never met a stranger,” her father Clay Mutschlechner told ABC.

Her mother Gloria Mutschlechner added, “She was friends with everyone.”
A friend told NBC she had learned a lot from Ms Mutschlechner.
“It goes to show that she was who she was and she wasn’t afraid to be herself,” said Jordan Roberts, Sara’s sorority sister. “She lived with joy and laughed with grace and didn’t care what other people thought. She was happy. And we all should be a little more like that.”
Ms Mutschlechner described herself as an “avid moviegoer” on LinkedIn, majored in radio, television and film with a minor concentration in theatre.
On her LinkedIn page she told of what she hoped to one day achieve.
“I want to inspire change just as much as I want to inspire future filmmakers, like myself, to continue creating beautiful and original works of art.”
In a statement on its Facebook page the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority said members were in deep shock.
