Psychic Uri Geller has pledged his support for relegation-threatened Newcastle United.
The world-renowned paranormalist, who once famously helped the Magpies banish their London hoodoo, has offered to help John Carver’s men ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash with West Ham.paranormalist, who once famously helped the Magpies banish their London hoodoo, has offered to help John Carver’s men ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash with West Ham.
The Israeli believes he can provide the motivation to ensure Newcastle’s Premier League status for another season — 14 years after his last stunt.
Uri, who started following the Magpies through his Toon-mad solicitor and best friend, said, “Me and my wife follow football so when I saw the position Newcastle is in I thought I could help.
“When I tried the last experiment it really worked. Obviously football is football, the ball is round, so anything could happen. But it is about the motivation and channelling that positive energy from the fans to the players, to help them over the line.”experiment it really worked. Obviously football is football, the ball is round, so anything could happen. But it is about the motivation and channelling that positive energy from the fans to the players, to help them over the line.”
As well as connecting with the psychic world, Uri, 68, also offered to travel to Tyneside to give a stirring pre-match team talk.
“Last time it was easy because I lived in London, but I’d be willing to travel up to Newcastle,” he said.
“I would only need two or three minutes with the players to get the adrenaline going and to motivate them.
“If Carver invites me that would have much more of a positive effect than anything else.”
In 2001, Uri helped Newcastle end a run of 29 matches without a win in the capital as they triumphed 3-1 at Arsenal.
During the match, Uri ran around the iconic Highbury stadium 11 times — the sum of two and nine in 29 — in a move he promised would see the Magpies end their London jinx.
Uri had vowed to break the curse after the Chronicle called on his aid following failed attempts by exorcists and voodoo witch doctors.
He said, “I remember after the game Arsene Wenger said there must have been a sorcerer at work. Somebody made me an honorary Geordie and I still have the scarf made for me.”
