THE Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a motion urging the Executive arm to give automatic employment to Miss Josephine Ugwu who recently picked and returned a huge sum of money belonging to a passenger at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.
Ugwu, a cleaner at the MMIA recently picked about N12 million said to have been forgotten by a passenger in the restroom.
The State Assembly has also constituted its standing committees to enable it carry out effectively her oversight functions within the next four years.
Apart from the automatic employment, which Ugwu shall pick in any Ministry of choice, the lawmakers recommended that she should also be honoured and immortalized for her trustworthiness and humility, while a letter of commendation would be raised by the House to her to serve as encouragement to other Nigerians.
Moving the motion for the reward of the lady by the state government, Chief Whip and member representing PDP Awgu Constituency, Mathias
Ekweremadu, said her selfless gesture should be emulated and celebrated.
He said that in a country where honesty, especially among the youths had become an issue, there was need for government to encourage anybody found to have exhibited faithfully virtues that could be emulated by others.
Contributing, Sunday Ude-Okoye, (PDP- Awgu North) said it was rare for people to do what she did especially now that most nations perceive Nigerians negatively.
“I do move that the House do urge Enugu State Government to name a street in the state capital after her for her truthfulness and honesty,” Ude-Okoye said.
Speaker of the House, Edward Ubosi, (PDP- Enugu-East), who thanked the sponsors of the motion, said it would serve as encouragement to others.
He stated that what the state and her people should celebrate at all times was not riches alone, but diligence, hard work and other virtues that could promote peace.
Ubosi described Ugwu as a true daughter of Enugu State and Igboland.
“I thank you in a special way because you have proved to be a true Wawa woman. Wawa means no, no. You said no to temptation. Keep it up, God will reward you abundantly,” Ubosi stated.
