Ambode not behind Fashola’s website saga – Group

By Wale Odunsi

A group, Lagos Indigenes Network Organization (LINO) has dissociated Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode from the N78m website upgrade scandal rocking his predecessor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

Fashola’s loyalists had accused Ambode of directing the leakage of information detailing the contract through the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.

But in a statement released on Thursday, LINO’s Executive Secretary, Fouad Ade-Basorun said since his swearing-in on May 29, Ambode had been working on developmental projects in the state rather than witch hunting.

LINO said while it was glad that the former governor had come out to openly defend the amount involved, “it finds it disgusting that some unscrupulous elements are claiming the revelations is done at the behest of the incumbent governor”.

“One of the arguments by these mischief makers is that since the information was made available on the website belonging to the state government, the governor must have instigated it and could have prevented the information from going public if he really wants to do so.

“Just like his predecessors, Governor Ambode, a trained and disciplined accountant is running a very transparent government where every necessary detail as regards how tax payers money is spent will not be hidden from the public.

“All activities of governments, including how funds are dispensed are available on the various websites and the governor will not stoop so low to order any agency to make public information with the sole aim of bringing his predecessor into public opprobrium.

“While we wish the former governor well in his future endeavour and we hope his explanations will put to rest the uproar the said amount has generated, we will not hesitate to take up anyone who overtly or covertly insinuates that His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is the brain behind any travails Fashola may be facing.

“He who asserts must prove. If they have any evidence linking the governor with the said issue, they should supply evidence forthwith or remain silent and desist from utterances capable of causing distrust in the state” the statement said.
