YAHOOZE hitmaker, Olumide Adegbolu popularly known as Olu Maintain but now known as Mr. Olu, is back with a new hit, Cinderella, which features Africa Queen crooner, 2face Idibia.
According to the Nawti crooner, the new hit is a tale of legends that cuts through time, adding that it is a song for many generations, which the young and old alike will find something listening pleasure in it.
He noted that the underlying soundtrack is a cover adaptation of the epic Eddie Quansa tune by ‘The Peacocks guitar band recorded in 1971 and adopted for use by popular TV drama of the 80s, The New Masquerade.
Produced by Kenny Wonder, the song has an infusion of highlife, afro-soul and hip hop, features the timeless lyrical cover from the legendary song Guitar boy by Sir Victor Uwaifo, recorded in 1966, all fused with indigenously carved lyrical sounds the two artistes have become known for.
The former Kentro Boyz leader said the video would be debuting around his birthday in July, adding that his third album titled, Chosen One is 90 per cent ready. “Dis video go worry o, dis video na the best video when I don ever do for my life,” he said on Naija Info FM, an indigenous Radio Station on Wednesday, while promoting the latest single Cinderella.
“My next album is 90 per cent ready and this time I assure my fans I will be a lot more consistent. The album is titled Chosen One and as I speak to you, the next single that will drop off the album is ready”, he added.
He disclosed that the album is due to drop by August or September adding that he would be dropping two more singles before releasing the album. He stated that each letter of the album title Chosen One, represents the first letter of the name of each song on the 10-track album, and would feature notable acts including Timaya, Reminisce, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, Cynthia Morgan and Victoria Kimani.
It would be recalled that in 2007, the ‘Enuff Efizzi’ master had Nigerians of all ages shaking their hands, stamping their feet and pointing their fingers to the sky with his hit single, Yahooze, a track from his first solo album Maintain Reloaded.
In 2009, he released another album titled With All Due Respect Press Play under the Kentro World Records. He followed with Nawti, in 2012, and a year later, 2013, he released a video starring reality TV star Natalie Nunn. The same year, he featured former G-Unit member Oliva on Hypnotize Me. Inspired by the World Cup and a trip to Brazil in 2014, he recorded Olu in Brazil.
Olu Maintain has been in the Nigeria music industry for 17 years. He was a member of the defunct group, Maintain, which had hit singles like Dommy Tilla (1998) and I Catch Cold (2002).
